Dani's Rockin' Reads

I read a little of everything, but sadly, I read sooooo slllllooooooowwww!  I love fables, myths and any author who can work whimsical things into ordinary situations and make me believe in them.  Jeanette Winterson, Ali Smith, Francesca Lia Block are just a few...

Same buddy, Emily, gave me this book to read. Once again, spot-on. Before I got on a plane to Ireland, hoping to move there, Em gives me this book and has written the most amazing note to me in the front cover. She compares me to Beryl Markham. It's the best compliment I've ever received.

I read this in high school and had to do a 30 page book report it. If I can still love a book after that much analysis it has to be better than great, right? Right. If you can't tell by my reviews so far, the books I really like have a little touch of the twisted and this is classic twisted, one of the best.

Talk about freakshow! My crazy friend told me to read this book... she has an amazing history of spot-on recommendations for me. But this one... a circus family? Really? ... But once again Emily was right. Incredibly creative, incredibly written, incredibly brilliant... INCREDIBLE, period.

This is a book I've picked as a favorite for years. It's a love story but not in that Gothic romance way that makes our hearts burst at it's corseted seams... this is raw, real and bitter.

Beautiful! The three narrators do such a wonderful job becoming the character, especially the main guy. I would actually be disappointed when my walks to town were over, then I'd have to put the story on pause. I couldn't stop listening to it but was sad when I'd reached the end.

First, I'd like to say that I don't think this is for teens. There is some heavy happenings throughout the book... more for adults who love whimsy. You'll read it in a flash and then read it again. Block's style of writing and descriptions are uncommon in the most electrifying way; both awkward and graceful.
